PictureHydroponics
Hydroponics refers to a hydro culture subset that entails growing plants using nutrient solutions that have minerals without soil. Water is used in growing plants.

Roots of terrestrial plants may be immersed in the solution of mineral nutrients only. An inert medium such as gravel, perlite expanded clay, coconut husk or mineral wool may be used in growing terrestrial plants. This method is based on the scientists’ findings of a research that was conducted during the 19th century. This research revealed that essential nutrients are absorbed by plants in their inorganic form as ions found in water.

Soil is just a reservoir for mineral nutrients. This implies that soil is not entirely essential for plants to grow. Plants roots absorb nutrients when they dissolve in water. Therefore, when mineral nutrients that plants require for proper growth are supplied through an artificial medium, the plant is able to thrive properly. Basically, any plant can grow through hydroponics. This method has been used widely over the years in teaching and biology research. People also use it to grow plants that are not able to grow in their climates. This is because this method provides a controlled means of growing plants. One is able to control the environment in which they grow plants.

Generally, there are many reasons why this method of growing plants has been adopted in various parts of the world. Among the major reasons include the fact that soil is not needed to grow plants. Water is also conserved because it stays within the system. This water can be reused later. Nutrition levels are easy to control which implies that one gets lower cost of nutrition consumed by the plant. In addition, controlling diseases and pests is also easy when using this method. Thus, plants grow healthier with
hydroponics because there are no pests and diseases.
